• 1 October (Thursday) 2009 - The Needle & The Damage Done - Stand-up comic and DJ Fiona Scott-Norman's top ten least favourite records, including John Laws and William Shatner. • 7 October (Wednesday) 2009 - Queensland Connections 2009 - Naturalist, Curator and Soldier: A Life Cut Short - A free talk on the life of Ken Jackson, a Queensland Museum ethnologist and soldier who collected in countries he served in during WW2 until he was killed in action in 1943. With guest speakers, anthropologist Michael Quinnell and historian Jeff Hopkins-Weise. 12.30pm to 1.15pm at the Queensland Museum, Cnr of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Bank. • 7 October (Wednesday) 2009 - FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo - Presented by The Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the Queensland Former Origin Greats (FOGS). The expo aims to provide Indigenous job seekers looking to secure employment and long-term career opportunities with the chance to connect with Queensland employers and career providers across a broad range of industries. Suncorp Stadium.
   
• 8 October (Thursday) 2009 - Light the Night - At twilight, friends, families and co-workers will take part in a walk to raise funds for patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. The event aims to remember, celebrate and bring hope to support Australians with blood cancers. Participants of Light the Night carry illuminated balloons to represent their journey. 5.00pm to 8.00pm at South Bank, Cultural Forecourt, Brisbane.
   
• 9 October (Friday) 2009 - RSPCA Happy Tails Day - (See also No School Today: Fundraising Activities.)
   
• 9 to 11 October 2009 - Oktoberfest Brisbane - With traditional food and drinks, live entertainment, a puppet theatre and more. • 10 October (Saturday) 2009 - National Firefighters Remembrance Day
   
• 10 October (Saturday) 2009 - 21st Reunion Morayfield State High School - For those students who finished year 10 in 1986, year 11 in 1987 and year 12 in 1988. Benched orchid displays, a foliage display, floral art display and a guest speaker discussing Natives on Bribie. The event will be held at Bribie Island State High School, First Ave, Bribie Island. • 11 October (Sunday) 2009 - Boaties Market - Raising funds to operate three rescue vessels and to purchase safety equipment for the Volunteer Marine Rescue Victoria Point. • 24 October (Saturday) 2009 - Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland - The event aims to encourage all Queenslanders under the age of 18 to have a voice through film. There is no entry fee for the competition, awards night or festival.

• 24 October (Sunday) 2009 - RBWH Butterfly Ball 2009 - An annual fundraiser. Proceeds will go towards research to help premature and seriously ill babies. Tickets are $195 each. 6.30pm at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
