Hendra is an eastern suburb of Brisbane, located approximately 6km from the CBD. The suburb is served by Toombul Shopping Centre to the north and specialty shops at Clayfield to the south. Hendra has the Gateway Arterial Road to the east, Sandgate Road to the west. With Doomben and Eagle Farm Racecourses just next door, Hendra has many stables. In 1994, a deadly new virus that affected horse racing circles throughout Australia and threatened to stop the Melbourne Cup was first found in Hendra. This virus is now known as Hendra virus.
